Artist’s Statement
Clay forms suggest the image of a seed, with holes that evoke a sense of a void. However, these spaces are not empty, but instead serve as a metaphor for the infinite kernel of wisdom that lies sleeping (and therefore is not readily visible) within all of us. Currently, many of us are living in a state of society-induced numbness, deadened to our own potential by the crisises around us. I made a traditional Japanese Buddha head with abstract form that is a metaphor of mind. My sculptures encourage the viewer to “wake up” and truly see the promise of what rests deep within the primal mind.
