Artist Statement
A synthesis of diverse life experiences and memories are what inspire me to seek expression in a variety of media, most frequently in metal. It is important to me to allow my work to evolve in an organic way. I do not pay attention to trends, or work in “series”. However, reflecting on the continuum of my creative endeavors, my work reveals recurring themes: nature, movement, texture, line and contrast.
I strive to keep my focus on the process as well as the vision of each individual piece. As the piece develops I often pause to reflect and re-examine the direction of the piece. Flexibility is important, goals and directions can change if I allow the metal, media, and form to have a voice. I consider the techniques I use to be the vocabulary of my expression.
Making things that adorn the body or the living environment is an activity that appears in all human cultures. This act, in and of itself, has function and meaning.
Whether making hollowware or jewelry, or sculptural objects - my goal is to create something that is enduring, classic and unique, functional and durable.
