Art Elements: Line, Shape, Value, Color, Texture, Space, Direction, Form

“Fellow Travelers” , in this immediate context, refers to the artists whose works are shown here; artwork that I collected over the years from those people participating in the SRJC Art Department learning community, both faculty colleagues and student participants. 

The artwork here shows a  range of media, materials, subject matter, content, creative expression, and aesthetics:

painting, drawing, printmaking, assemblage, collage, mono-print, photography, watercolor, collagraph, etching, woodcut.

The artists exhibiting here established functional aspiration and accomplishment with conscientious self direction/self discipline, an earnest creative, intellectual, and aesthetic exploration of materials, visual appreciations, and expressive, content concerns. They have done their work diligently and with perseverance they accomplish objects of beautiful creative work. In the process, each makes progress in craft, creative vision, self understanding and, more generally, a more functional understanding of our Common Humanity.

To me, their work is inspirational, satisfying in scope and aesthetics.

It has been a pleasure and a privilege to engage and share in their good company. The pleasure and the privilege of being here ( an SRJC faculty employee) is really about creating shared relationships with people who arrive with a sense of wonder, curiosity/inquiry, and aspirations of understanding/communication, of creative exploration and life long learning; and who depart with a sense of embrace for our enduring common humanity: “ Common humanity is the recognition that all people share fundamental lived experiences, including suffering, imperfections, and the desire for happiness: All People, from All Places: Egalitarian.

We are All fellow travelers; to be included together with respect, appreciation, affirmation, fair share grace and justice.
